I am a firm believer that my public speaking training at Toastmasters has made me more money than my collage training. They taught me to turn off the artist side of the brain and talk to a client, which in turn offers a better opportunity to sell more products. Simple but effective. I always thought that selling photography is easy and it applies to almost all industry specially in advertising alone to education. While it was an excellent school as far as learning technique, I wasn't taught anything about how to start and run a photography business and consequently, I wasn't equipped to become a professional photographer. I had to take a job in sales because I the starving artist thing got old. Learning how to become a good photographer without learning how to make a living doing it is practically worthless.
