It's a great article and very inspiring. I like the story about David Kirkland, it's shows ones more that there are niches everywhere, you just need the ideas, and well maybe also a little bit courage to start. But if you start small, and success shows up - great!

With the downturn in the economy, I think this information is very timely. Photographers, like so many others, are feeling the pinch and need to figure out little niches to make it through the tough times. Flickr could very well be a potent tool to add to any photographer's marketing and networking mix.

Great information! Now that the threshold to enter the photography marketplace is so low, it is very important to find the niches and figure out how to promote yourself in those areas. I LOVE to travel and will look into David's book. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for this article, I particulary enjoyed reading about travel photog David Kirkland. Not only is David's work visually stunning but his marketing methods are very innovative.

I was pariculary intrigued by his use of photo e-books as a marketing tool as well as a profit center. I'd personally enjoying learning more about this topic. David's marketing savvy is an inspiration for all of us no matter what the genre. I look forward to reading more articles like these.

I'm curious what methods photographers use to market their images, I'm currently running a poll on my blog the link is provided below if anyone is interested. I'd appreciate your feedback
