It's so hard trying to find a middle ground as to paying bills and pleasing customers. our world is obsessed with 'cheap', customers want to pay the same for a print as they do to print holiday snaps at a shop!

I agree it's difficult, I have recently met up with the administrators of this site and they will let you keep 100% of the commission from selling your work and they have a good site

Please do not confuse my site with anything photographic in nature.

My question relates to trying to sell framed or unframed photos at "wine tastings", where money flows as freely as the booze. I have many local photos that are unique and it seems to me that I may have a good target market with what I have described.

What do you think?

Good article. With large online stock photo agencies now selling images for next to nothing it's easy for a photographer to undervalue ones self. I'm not against sites like istockphoto and fotolia as I think they're great resources but it can lead to images elsewhere being under valued.

Phots are sold to freely and easily, as well as stolen over the web. Consider the time you have spent working on learning your trade and trust that your work is worth a "reasonable" value. As said above, your ability has a price and it reflects on others, so be fair

To many photographers under value their images and give them away. Photographers get sucked into having an image "Published" and Art Buyers know this. Unless the published work is with a high profile publication, Art buyers could care less that you have an image printed in Quilting Today. Who cares is the photography community that is struggling as a whole to to keep compensation fair. I have beef with Hacks and weekend photographers trying to make a fast dollar and killing this lively hood I love. If you want to shoot part time and sell your images that's fine, just price them at market value.
