Apart from the fact that there will be some fantastic pictures to admire, you’d also get the chance to see what it takes to snatch a prize from a very prestigious international competition. With entries now open until the end of the year for the 2008 competition, that could put you in good stead.
The “Prix de la Photographie, Paris”:
“…strives to promote the appreciation of photography, to discover emerging talent, and introduce photographers from around the world to the artistic community of Paris.”
Why the artistic community of Paris can’t venture out to meet photographers themselves isn’t clear. What is clear is that the competition attracts top-level professionals from the world of advertising, photojournalism, publishing, art, nature and portraiture, as well as amateurs keen to create a name for themselves by winning the Px3 Photographer of the Year, Px3 Best New Talent or an Honorable Mention.
The prize is… a lot of prestige. The Best New Talent winner picks up 2000 Euros but apart from him/her it’s all about a spot on the exhibition wall and pride of place in the annual Px3 book. With entry fees of $20 per photo for amateurs and $30 per photo for professionals, that’s a little on the mean side. But the competition only has the rights to use submitted photos (with permission) to promote the contest, so win and you’ll be the proud owner of a very expensive photo.
And if you can’t get to Paris, you can check out this year’s winners here.
