Correction: Demotix actually paid its contributors an average of 500 pounds (around $824) not the amount stated above.

For the amount of coverage Iran has been getting as of late, $500 is a ridiculously low amount of money. As there are no professional photographers to compete with due to Iranian government censorship, those images should be fetching much higher prices on average.

Does anyone watch the news? These guys are spitting out tweets and FB comments as news with an "Unverified" badge next to the ticker- you really think they give a hoot if the image is verified? In context?

Put another way, if I were one of only ten anythings in entire the world, I'd certainly command a lot more than $500. That's pathetic.

To what end, to upload pictures they were going to upload anyway? Where is the lie - that they pay people? that the images came from iran ?? Dont you think the person whos image was on the front of the NYT might notice if they dont get paid?
