I'm sure many heard about the experiment of posting a piece of art for critisizing publicly and the result was close to devastating. (http://www.f1point0.com/2007/08/21/the-dark-side-of-photosharing-sites/) I think good ways of really learning photography are enrolling into a class or meeting a photo editor of e.g. a magazine regularly.
